Geekvape Aegis, which box mod suits which vaper

Tough, sealed, near indestructible. Shop listings use those words for almost every model, as if one Geekvape Aegis were much like another. Yet Geekvape describes its three current box mods for very different vapers, from the beginner leaving a pod behind to the fan of big clouds. Buying on the reputation for toughness alone means risking a box mod designed for somebody else. The simplest route is to start from your own profile.

Which Geekvape Aegis suits which vaper

The Geekvape Aegis to pick depends on what you expect from your kit. If you are moving on from a pod and want neither cells nor dismantling, take the Mini 5. If you want a mod that sets up in two moves and lasts a long time between charges, take the Solo 5. If you like adjusting every parameter and vape direct to lung at high wattage, take the Legend 5.

If you already own a Solo 3, or if you mostly vape outdoors, two sections further down speak to you directly.

The figures in the table come from the product pages of Geekvape’s official store.

Profile 1, you are leaving a pod for your first box mod

The Mini 5 is the only one of the three that needs no external cell. It charges through USB-C, at 5 V and 2 A or 5 V and 3 A according to its spec sheet, and Geekvape claims 80 per cent charge in 40 minutes. At 138.2 mm tall, 39 mm wide and 28.6 mm deep, it is also the most compact.

What makes it approachable after a pod is mainly its tank. Geekvape presents the Z Nano 3 with a push-to-refill system, designed so you do not have to unscrew the top of the tank. The kit adds a wider spare drip tip and two B series coils. The pre-fitted B0.2 runs between 50 and 58 W, the spare B0.4 between 25 and 35 W, a gentler way into direct to lung vaping. If you are still unsure about the draw, our guide to the tight MTL draw covers the basics.

One detail worth knowing, the Mini 5 is rated IP67 rather than IP68 like the other two. Under the IEC 60529 standard, the second digit sets a tougher immersion test for an 8 than for a 7.

Profile 2, you want few settings and rare recharges

The Solo 5 is the Geekvape Aegis for anyone who would rather not learn a menu. Its spec sheet lists just two modes, Smart, which suggests a wattage from the coil detected, and Power, the manual setting. For a vaper who does not want to spend time on settings, that is a selling point rather than a gap.

On battery life, it takes a 21700 cell, and Geekvape puts an adapter in the box so an 18650 fits too. The larger 21700 generally offers more capacity, which spaces out recharges. It measures 146.1 mm tall, 42.55 mm wide and 31 mm deep.

An external cell calls for a few habits. It goes in a case, never loose with keys or coins, and its wrap must stay intact. If you are still weighing up which level of kit suits you, our guide to box mod tiers by profile sets out the landmarks.

Profile 3, you like to fine-tune every parameter

The Legend 5 is the mod for vapers who adjust everything. Five modes appear on its spec sheet, including a CUSTOM mode and temperature control, with output rising to 200 W from two 18650 cells in series, for 7.4 V. It only makes sense if you vape direct to lung with low-resistance coils and high-VG liquids. Its pre-fitted Z0.15 XM coil, at 0.15 ohm, runs between 70 and 85 W.

Two constraints matter before buying. The cells must be flat at both ends, otherwise the battery door will not close. And the mod accepts coils from 0.1 to 2 ohms, while the same spec sheet lists Z coils up to 3 ohms, a value the mod therefore does not support. At 146 mm tall and 56 mm wide, it is also the widest of the three. A mechanical mod, the other route experienced vapers take, follows a completely different logic, explained in our piece on who a mechanical mod suits.

Profile 4, you mostly vape outdoors

This is the profile Geekvape puts forward on all three product pages, building sites, hiking, camping. For its IP68 products, the brand claims immersion down to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes and drops from 2 metres. That claim covers the mod, and the page says nothing about the tank fitted on top.

The Legend 5 spec sheet also sets limits that shops rarely repeat. The mod works between 0 and 45 °C, should be stored between −20 and 60 °C and is designed for 45 to 75 per cent relative humidity. Left on a dashboard in full sun or taken out in hard frost, it moves outside the conditions the maker intended, whatever its rating. Check these values in the manual for your model.

On tank size, refillable tanks sold in the UK are capped at 2 ml, so these kits come with the TPD versions of their tanks, 2 ml instead of the 5 ml of the standard Z Nano 3 or the 5.5 ml of the Legend 5 glass. Nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml in 10 ml bottles.

Profile 5, you already own a Solo 3

Geekvape publishes its own list of differences between the Solo 3 and the Solo 5. Maximum output stays at 100 W, charging at 5 V and 2 A and the rating at IP68. What changes is 21700 compatibility, a screen grown from 0.96 to 1.08 inches, the touch lock replaced by the A-Lock with a status indicator, and the tank, now the Z Subohm Tank 5. If you only use 18650 cells and the touch lock suits you, the gap stays modest.

FAQ

Five questions the profiles above leave open.

Will a tank from another brand fit a Geekvape Aegis?

Yes, all three mods use a 510 connector. On the Legend 5, which is 26 mm deep, a 26 mm tank sits flush with the edge, and anything wider overhangs. Above all, check that the coil resistance falls within the range the mod accepts.

Are cells included with the Solo 5 and the Legend 5?

No. Geekvape sells both mods without cells, so you need one or two cells suited to the wattage you plan to use. The Mini 5 has its own built-in 3,200 mAh battery.

What is the A-Lock for?

It is a physical lock that stops the mod firing. Geekvape presents it as protection against accidental firing, handy when the mod travels in a bag.

Should the cells be charged inside the mod?

The USB-C port allows it on all three models. For the Solo 5 and the Legend 5, a dedicated external charger is often recommended, since it charges each cell separately.

Which mode should a beginner use on a Legend 5?

SMART mode suggests a wattage suited to the coil detected. It is the simplest starting point, before switching to manual mode to fine-tune.

Geekvape Aegis, the right model reflects the way you vape

A built-in battery and simpler filling for leaving a pod, two modes and a 21700 for anyone who wants simplicity, five modes and 200 W for anyone who likes to tinker. Each of the three mods answers a specific need, and the reputation for toughness shared across the range settles nothing.

A Geekvape Aegis is therefore chosen on your profile first, then on its spec sheet, checking the tank version and the operating conditions the maker sets.
